What is the Cisco Secure Email Encryption Add-in?

The Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service add-in allows you to encrypt your messages directly from Microsoft Outlook with a single click.


Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • The Encryption Add-in requires Azure AD permissions using Microsoft Graph API
  • The Encryption Add-in currently only supports Microsoft 365 managed domains

To get started with the Encryption Add-in, you will need to have admin access to your Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service.

Step 1: Download

  1. Log in to your Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service Admin account
  2. Click on Accounts
  3. Click on your account number
  4. Click on Addin Config
  5. Paste in your Azure AD Tenant ID, Client ID, and Client Secret
  6. Click Save Details
  7. Make any additional changes to the Add-in Settings
  8. Click Save Configuration
  9. Click Download Manifest

This will generate the .xml file and save it to your local downloads.

Step 2: Install

If you have installed the Submission Add-in, the steps and actions are similar. You have two options to install the Add-in:

  • Install locally in Outlook or Outlook Web
  • Install centralized via Microsoft 365

Most of the time, the Encryption Add-in will be deployed by an administrator for their entire organization to use, typically centralized and using Microsoft 365.

Step 3: Encrypt Message

  1. On your Outlook for Office 365/Microsoft 365 or Outlook Web App, compose the message that you want to encrypt, and add at least one valid recipient to it.

Note

If the encryption type (set by your administrator) is Encrypt, ensure that you have completed your message and added valid recipients before proceeding to the next step. After Step 3, the message is encrypted and sent immediately.

  1. Open the Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service add-in.

    Do one of the following:

    • On Outlook Web App, click the ellipsis icon (located near the Send and Discard buttons), and
      click Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service.
    • On Outlook for Windows or macOS, click Encrypt from the Ribbon or Toolbar.
  2. Enter your credentials, and click Sign in.
  3. (Only if the Encryption Type is Flag) Click Send.

You can view the encryption status under the Encryption Flow Summary section of the Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service add-in pane. For troubleshooting encryption issues, see the Troubleshooting Cisco Secure Email Encryption Service Add-in_ chapter of the User Guide
